Finding Your Way Around Camp

As you come off of Ipswich Rd. entering camp, please make your way at a slow and safe speed down to the office for check ins.

Be sure to notice some camp landmarks along the way, including the A-field, the BMX track, the volleyball court, and the archery range!

Our A Team.

Our administrative staff consists of experienced industry professionals and educators that embody the mission of Camp Rotary.

Mike Earls

Director

Mike has been a part of Camp Rotary since he started as a camper in 1998. He has been a camper, CIT, counselor, Ropes Director, Program Director, and Maintenance Director over his nearly 30 years at camp. Mike holds 2 Master's degrees in education, in addition to degrees in psychology and human development. Outside of camp, Mike has been a teacher in the Peabody Public Schools for 15 years. After meeting at Rotary more than 20 years ago, he and his wife, Elyse now watch their two children, Owen and Logan, create their own camp memories as campers. They also have a mini labradoodle named Bruin who occasionally makes an appearance at camp!

Caleigh Murphy

Assistant Director

Caleigh Murphy is excited to join Camp Rotary as Assistant Director for the 2026 season. She brings experience in both education and youth development, including serving as a CIT Director at her local day camp and spending time as both a camper and staff member at sleepaway camps. Caleigh holds a Master’s degree in Recreation, Parks, and Sport Management from Frostburg State University and is currently a high school teacher, where she teaches courses such as Foods & Nutrition, Early Childhood Education, and Creative Crafts. She loves creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences and is passionate about helping campers build confidence and try new things. Outside of camp and the classroom, Caleigh enjoys hiking, crafting, and spending time with her family and her cat, Milo—who she hopes might even make a special appearance at camp this summer!

Joleen Parisi-Freitas

Operations Manager

Joleen Parisi-Freitas works year-round for Camp Rotary, her first summer on staff being in 2013.  As office manager during the off-season, her job includes overseeing registrations and payments, managing the waitlists, and communicating with parents.  During the summer, Joleen holds the title of Operations Manager, coordinating many “behind the scenes” facets of camp.  She graduated from Merrimack College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Science and in her spare time loves spending time with her family, going to the beach, scrapbooking, and a good Netflix series to binge!  Joleen lives in North Andover with her husband and their 5 year old son, Josiah, who can’t wait until he can officially be a camper!

Sergio Escobar

Head Chef

Sergio's skill and experience as a chef is what makes our kitchen run smoothly, and our campers going back for seconds (and thirds!). He ensures all meals are balanced and delicious, and that there is plenty for everyone, and he does it all with a smile! Sergio's team also keeps the salad bar stocked and makes sandwiches upon request for those that prefer an alternative. Outside of camp, you may be able to find some of Sergio's food being served at TD Garden where he works overseeing a team of chefs!

Applying to work at camp

Counselor-In-Training

The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program here at Camp Rotary is often the first step to being a counselor. CITs receive training lead by our CIT Director, one of our most experienced staff members. Then they assist our counseling staff in planning and running cabin and program activities. The program has become a very competitive one and will likely continue to be for years to come. The CIT program is the primary feeder program to our counseling staff positions and although there is no guarantee that a CIT will become a counselor, almost all of our non-international counselors this summer have been CITs in past years.

Cabin and Program Counselor

All of the staff at Camp Rotary have passed an extensive background check that includes…

  1. completion of a camp application that documents past employment history and educational background

  2. a personal interview

  3. three positive personal/business references

  4. a criminal record check done through the state of MA (for all residents of MA). or a criminal record check done by the applicant’s local police / court (if applicant is not a resident of MA)

  5. documentation of any credentials / special training necessary for their job at camp

  6. All camp counselors are required to hold current certification in CPR and first aid.

Additionally, upon selection, all staff members are required to attend an extensive training program that is done here at camp, prior to their being allowed to work with the campers. Many of them take extra training and certification courses to allow them to work in our specialty areas of camp: archery, riflery, ropes, all waterfront programs and BMX biking.

In order to maximize the growth potential of each camper, Camp Rotary staff will continually remain focused on the following goals for each camper.

  3. Each camper will challenge their own limits.

  4. Each camper will demonstrate an increase in level of self-confidence.

  5. Each camper will demonstrate a respect and appreciation of the natural environment.

  6. Each camper will demonstrate an increase in level of personal and group responsibility.

  7. Each camper will demonstrate important character values of honesty, integrity, kindness and fairness.

  8. Each camper will demonstrate a respect and caring for self and others.

  9. Each camper will demonstrate a respect for community rules and limits.

  10. Each camper will demonstrate an increase in ability to establish friendships.

  11. Each camper will be more present with peers and staff by leaving phones, social media and technology at home.

Program goals:

  1. Each camper will select (independently or with guidance) his/her own programs for the week.

  2. Each camper will actively participate in all programs selected.

  3. Each camper will demonstrate an increase in the skill level from baseline to end of week in each program selected.

Our hope is that these goals are not only achieved in camp, but that they contribute to the camper’s ability to exhibit these skills in settings outside of camp, as well.

Vision

Camp Rotary’s vision is to be the best residential summer camp in the region and to earn the trust of parents, campers and the general public as a safe summer activity that offers positive, life-changing experiences, including the opportunity to create positive, strong bonds of friendship that can often last a lifetime.

Mission

Camp Rotary’s mission is to provide well-trained, role model counselors who understand the importance of teaching children by example.  Our mission is to impact the world by sending our campers and staff back out into their home and school environments with more self-awareness, independence, confidence, kindness, and respect of individual differences.

Our Core Values

Camp Rotary was founded by the Lynn Rotary Club, part of the Rotary International organization.  The values of Rotary are imbedded in our philosophy.  The Rotary motto of “Service above self” and the Rotary 4-way test are core to our value system:

  1. Is it the truth?

  2. Is it fair to all involved?

  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
